After refusing to wait in line for The Cottage and Coffee Cup, I happened to end up at Herringbone for lunch after strolling around the neighborhood. The interior design is absolutely beautiful in the restaurant, with natural light from the … Continue reading
table for two: ink
in order of most favorite to least favorite: Just pure bliss…loved taking a bite into the gnocchi and tasting the silky yolk spill out from the soft pasta. The mushroom flavor was a great touch, and I couldn’t stop drinking … Continue reading
table for two: garces trading company
As a final brunch of the semester, the grizzlies went to garces and splurged on the $22, two-course plus pastry basket plus coffee / tea combo and highly enjoyed it (especially that boat of jam). While my charcuterie plate and salad … Continue reading
table for two: soi 4
With every new restaurant I review, I start to inch farther and farther away from Berkeley and more into Rockridge. This was totally not on purpose-Rockridge just has a LOT of nice restaurants that have a LOT of interesting menus.
Soi 4 was actually recommended by an older Berkeley native that is well seasoned in the restaurant scene in the bay area. This “Bangkok Eatery” (as self-proclaimed on their website) was definitely not afraid to explore unique flavor profiles or season aggressively on top of their Thai palette. However, the spiciness of the dishes was quite underwhelming compared to the golden reputation of Thai spiciness. I would describe this restaurant as more “bougie American-Thai” as opposed to authentic Thai-but I personally don’t really mind that. Either way, the food was up there on the quality scale. The gai pik khing was probably my favorite-intensly salty and sweet, with the Indian roti appetizer in a close second (but actually though, order it).
I also just wanted to point out that this place is great for date night. The lighting is soft and dim, and the sleek decor with the sharply dressed waiters (one of whom was the most handsome man I’d ever seen) create a naturally romantic ambiance.
My sprinkle of sugar: Definitely on the pricier side for us college students, but also definitely worth the buck. 4 out of 5. -C

On a beautiful Friday morning, I came out to Wedge + Fig with a few friends to indulge in mac + cheese and grilled cheeses over wine. It was a well needed break before the last week of classes, and, … Continue reading
two tablespoons: icebox cake
Of course, on my second day (first full day) back on campus after spring break, I’m going to try to make something. And of course, my roommates are going to feel really skeptical about it. But last Sunday, 30 minutes … Continue reading
